Celebrating Five Years of Picture Book in HudCo!

It’s Picture Book’s Five Year Anniversary!

Picture Book opened inside HudCo October 2020 with a small selection of books on the table, and has grown not only with additional books and shelves, but also to be it’s own community. I couldn’t have done it without the great support of the HudCo owners and team, and I’m so grateful this pop-up has found a home here. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey that started out of a love for books and has been sustained by a love for this community.

Stay tuned for news on how we’ll celebrate!

Join us to Read Together!

After a successful event inspired by Gretchen Rubin in June, we’re continuing to meet up at the bookshop in HudCo’s cafe to read for 25 minutes this September to help build the valuable habit of making time to read every day.  Research shows that reading is good for us: it benefits mental health, sharpens the brain, makes us more empathetic, helps us learn, and increases our tolerance for uncertainty. And most importantly, it’s fun!

Meet us in the café section around Picture Book inside HudCo and take 25 minutes to read silently together. You are welcome to bring your own book, or ask for recommendations. Come early to get a beverage from Boxing Day Café or to pick out your next read from Picture Book.

PB Book Club - The Antidote by Karen Russell

Our next book club pick is

The Antidote by Karen Russell

From Pulitzer finalist, MacArthur Fellowship recipient, and bestselling author of Swamplandia! and Vampires in the Lemon Grove Karen Russell: a gripping dust bowl epic about five characters whose fates become entangled after a storm ravages their small Nebraskan town

"Spellbinding. . . . In The Antidote, Karen Russell, America's own Prairie Witch of a writer, exhumes memories out of the collective national unconscious and invites us to see our history in full. There are, alas, no antidotes for history. Our consolations are found in writers like Russell who refract horror and wonder through their own strange looking glass, leaving us energized for that next astounding thing.” —NPR

Meet & Greet: Katie Tolson, featured in The Flower Farmers

Come to Picture Book inside HudCo, pick up a copy of this essential book for flower garden enthusiasts, and get a chance to talk to Katie Tolson and benefit from her specialty knowledge in seasonal practices for our specific region.

About Katie:
Seed-on-Hudson is the brainchild of flower farmer and seed saver Katie Tolson based in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York.

Her love of plants and flowers started with freshly picked summer strawberries and roses in her mother's & grandmother's gardens. California raised her, the UK made her a mother, and New York gave her the space to grow dreams.

Inspired by her love of all things organic, flavorful, fragrant and homegrown, and frustrated by the lack of places to buy good quality, healthy seedlings of heirloom varieties and native plants, Katie set up Seed-on-Hudson to serve her local Westchester community. Katie is a Committee Member of the Hastings Pollinator Pathway Project and initiated The Great Hastings Seed Swap in February 2021.
